John McEnroe
Coinciding with "Embrace!", the Denver Art Museum’s blockbuster installation-exhibition, Robischon Gallery’s show features an exhibition by artist John McEnroe; his new works of large-scale sculpture explore the malleable possibilities of plastic. Through melting, stretching and fusing children’s toys and other plastic objects, McEnroe’s large compositions shape-shift and repurpose the ever-present and largely disposable detritus of every day lives into evocative works of visual and tactile pleasure. Formally substantial with a sophisticated sensibility, the artist addresses issues of transience and permanence all the while allowing the materials to dictate the formal result – whether it be melted Star Wars masks or the sand-filled nylon stockings that comprise his ceiling installation at the Denver Art Museum exhibition. McEnroe and 16 other artists created site-specific works for the unique architecture in the Frederic C. Hamilton Building. McEnroe’s installation is sponsored by CultureHaus and Darby Donohue.

Jessica Stockholder
Robischon is also showcasing sculpture and new monoprints by internationally-known artist and Embrace! exhibition participant Jessica Stockholder. Stockholder is a highly influential pioneer of multimedia genre-bending installations – a prominent language in contemporary art, Stockholder transforms everyday materials such as buckets, faux fur, fake fruit and other miscellaneous mass-produced ephemera into brightly-colored, three-dimensional works. Her exhibited dimensional monoprints, which include elements of photography and fake fur; originated as a tangential series to the artist’s massive scale public art installation entitled Flooded Chambers Maid in New York’s Madison Square Park in the summer of 2009.
